Adult Acne Treat

There are many misconceptions about acne despite being one of the most common skin conditions around the world; the main belief being that it only affects young people. Although not confined to teenagers, it is usually at this point in their lives when it is more likely to show and the figures indicate that as many as 9 out of 10 people will have acne at some time during their life.

Our sebaceous glands produce oil called sebum which fouls up the hair follicles and contributes to acne but this is not the only substance responsible. Acne is the result of the sebum in the pores and not the skin itself although the condition does seem to be a modern problem and not something we have always had to live with.

But the clogged pores which are the main cause of acne can also be the result of contemporary substances like cosmetics, pollution and even the hormone adjustments many young people go through. Other causes that have been discovered are the reprocessed foods we eat and the high level of sugars that re contained in almost everything we consume.

In more serious cases of acne, some of the proprietary treatments may not be effective and it may be necessary to see a dermatologist. Usually, follow-up visits will be necessary to that the acne is being cured without further intervention being required. During this time in particular it is important to ensure that fingernails are cleaned thoroughly and regularly as they harbor dirt, germs and bacteria that can aggravate the condition.

This means that fingernails need to be kept clean and not dismissed because they look clean as almost all bacteria and germs are invisible to the naked human eye. So wherever possible, it is advisable to keep the hands, especially fingernails away from any acne spots.

Research has shown that if your parents had acne, you’ll probably have it as well and very few people have perfect skin, so it is a very common skin disorder among almost every single person. By far the biggest reason for acne is when a youth child enters into puberty and the change in hormone levels associated with that period.

Whilst opinions vary on the subject, it cannot hurt to contact a dermatologist if you are having a problem with acne or other skin complaint. The information here is not designed to replace the advice given by a doctor, dermatologist or other medical professional.
