There are many misconceptions about acne despite being one of the most common skin conditions around the world; the main belief being that it only affects young people. Although not confined to teenagers, it is usually at this point in their lives when it is more likely to show and the figures indicate that as many as 9 out of 10 people will have acne at some time during their life.

Our sebaceous glands produce oil called sebum which fouls up the hair follicles and contributes to acne but this is not the only substance responsible.
