Acne is an extremely prevalent skin condition affecting many people globally but does not just affect the young. Although not confined to teenagers, it is usually at this point in their lives when it is more likely to show and the figures indicate that as many as 9 out of 10 people will have acne at some time during their life.

Generally, acne is the result of excess oil or sebum in the hair follicles but this is not the only cause nor does it mean that over production of oil equals acne either. The problem comes about because most people do not realize that bacteria and germs cannot normally be seen by the naked eye and they believe if their nails look clean they are safe. Therefore any contact between an acne sufferer’s hands and affected areas should be avoided if possible.
