Does Birth Control Help With Acne

Many people find it hard to believe that you can suffer with acne at any age and do not have to be a teenager. Although not confined to teenagers, it is usually at this point in their lives when it is more likely to show and the figures indicate that as many as 9 out of 10 people will have acne at some time during their life.

Our sebaceous glands produce oil called sebum which fouls up the hair follicles and contributes to acne but this is not the only substance responsible. Acne seems to be a condition that is not necessarily a natural one and something that past generations did not suffer with.

Clogged pores can also be caused by things like makeup, atmospheric pollution and the reason more young people seem to suffer with it, hormone adjustments but at least it is a treatable condition. Other causes that have been discovered are the reprocessed foods we eat and the high level of sugars that re contained in almost everything we consume.

More persistent cases of acne will probably need stronger medication which can be prescribed by a dermatologist. Usually, follow-up visits will be necessary to that the acne is being cured without further intervention being required. During this time in particular it is important to ensure that fingernails are cleaned thoroughly and regularly as they harbor dirt, germs and bacteria that can aggravate the condition.

Unfortunately just because fingernails look clean does not mean they are, and as bacteria are usually invisible to the naked eye, there is no guarantee that an infection cannot be passed on. It is for this very reason that anyone who suffers with acne should not touch their acne with their bare hands.

Unfortunately, acne does seem to have a hereditary link so if you mother and father had acne ten you will also probably suffer as well, bearing in mind that the number of individuals with perfect skin in the world is very low. However, in the majority of cases the hormones resulting in acne usually take place during teenage years.

If necessary, acne sufferers should consult a dermatologist or qualified physician for acne treatment. This article is based on information readily available but should be used as a guide only, so if you are unsure, contact a medical professional about your condition.
