How Do I Treat Cystic Acne

For the many millions of people worldwide who suffer with acne, the fact that it is the most common of all skin complaints is no consolation and it is not solely a condition suffered by young people. Although not confined to teenagers, it is usually at this point in their lives when it is more likely to show and the figures indicate that as many as 9 out of 10 people will have acne at some time during their life.

Our sebaceous glands produce oil called sebum which fouls up the hair follicles and contributes to acne but this is not the only substance responsible. It appears that acne is not an age old problem but a recent development and one caused by too much oil in the pore itself which results in the pimple we are all very conscious of.

Among the many causes of clogged pores are the use of makeup, everyday air particles and often a simple case of hormonal changes but while acne is a part of life for many individuals, it can be effectively treated. Other causes that have been discovered are the reprocessed foods we eat and the high level of sugars that re contained in almost everything we consume.

In more serious cases of acne, some of the proprietary treatments may not be effective and it may be necessary to see a dermatologist. When medication is prescribed, normally the doctor involved will want to see the patient to ensure the acne is clearing according to plan and decide whether to use more extreme methods. The fingernails are the acne sufferer’s biggest problem as bacteria can cause further infection of the already sensitive area so it is important that the acne is not aggravated any further.

This means that fingernails need to be kept clean and not dismissed because they look clean as almost all bacteria and germs are invisible to the naked human eye. It is for this very reason that anyone who suffers with acne should not touch their acne with their bare hands.

Research has shown that if your parents had acne, you’ll probably have it as well and very few people have perfect skin, so it is a very common skin disorder among almost every single person. By far the biggest reason for acne is when a youth child enters into puberty and the change in hormone levels associated with that period.

When the condition is affecting the individual both physically and emotionally then this is a good time to take advice from a dermatologist.
