Scalp Acne

Acne is one of the most common skin problems affecting people worldwide and a general misconception is that acne affects only teenagers, but many are surprised to learn that adults also suffer from this same inconvenience. In actual fact it is probably more common than you thought with ninety percent of the world’s population suffering with acne in one form or another during their lifetime.

Our bodies produce oil called sebum which is quite normal but sometimes we produce too much and this clogs the hair follicles which can be one of the causes of acne but excess oil is not the only cause nor does it mean that someone who has excess oil in their hair follicles will develop acne. It appears that acne is not an age old problem but a recent development and one caused by too much oil in the pore itself which results in the pimple we are all very conscious of.

But the clogged pores which are the main cause of acne can also be the result of contemporary substances like cosmetics, pollution and even the hormone adjustments many young people go through. Many other factors contribute to the formation of acne and some debate that diet impacts the formation of acne, caused by reprocessed foods, junk foods, and sugars this contemporary society eats every day.

In more serious cases of acne, some of the proprietary treatments may not be effective and it may be necessary to see a dermatologist. Having a dermatologist treat the condition is not such a bad idea as he or she will be able to better check on how well the treatment is he prescribed. During this time in particular it is important to ensure that fingernails are cleaned thoroughly and regularly as they harbor dirt, germs and bacteria that can aggravate the condition.

This means that fingernails need to be kept clean and not dismissed because they look clean as almost all bacteria and germs are invisible to the naked human eye. So wherever possible, it is advisable to keep the hands, especially fingernails away from any acne spots.

The chances of perfect skin are virtually zero and you are more likely to suffer with acne if your parents also had the condition. In the vast majority of acne cases though, it is caused by the transition from a child to an adult and the changes that take place during this period.

Nevertheless it is still best to contact a skin specialist before you start any type of medication. Please be aware that the information here is provides as a guide only and does not try to replace the professional guidance supplied by a professional about the condition and treatment of acne.
